How TeachersFirst Works

What is the difference between the Classroom and Professional menus?

The classroom menu helps you find resources you will use with your students. The professional menu helps you find resources that will improve your knowledge and effectiveness as a teacher. You can browse these menus, watching the small text messages that appear immediately below to explain the contents, or read About Us for explanation TeachersFirst’s organizational structure.

What do you mean by “resource”?

TeachersFirst has a database of thousands of web sites and interactive activities that are useful in the classroom, for professional information, or for parents. Our team of experienced teachers helps to find, review, and index these resources so you can find what you need quickly. When you search for a “resource,” you will get a list of links, each with a review telling you what to it is, suitable grade levels, how to use it, and any strengths or weaknesses it may have.

Where can I search?

You can search from the Classroom menu for resources that you might use with students. You have the option of searching by subject/grade or by keyword. The keyword search is also useful for finding professional resources.

Where can I find ideas for my subject and grade level?

Try the Subject/Grade search on the classroom menu. If you are a member, you will also see recent additions in your chosen subjects/grades when you log in.

Are all of these resources written by TF?

Some of the resources we list, such as the Interactive Raven, Dates That Matter, and many teaching units, are created by our own staff and “belong” to us. If we did not create the resource, the review will tell who did, and the URL (web address) to of the actual site will show in the “frame bar” at the top as you look at the actual resource. Any questions you have about authorship on these outside sites should be addressed by looking for an “about us” or “credits” page included as part of the site. (see illustration)

How do I join the TeachersFirst mailing list?

You can join it from a link on the home page, from a checkbox when you join, or by clicking here.

What do you mean by Favorite?

If you find a resource in browsing or searching TeachersFirst and want to be able to return to it quickly or give the link to your students for classroom assignments, you can click “Add to My Favorites” in the top framebar as you look at the site. When you mark a Favorite, you can “tag” it for easy retrieval and choose where you want people to be able to se it, such as on a free teacher home page within TeachersFirst. See Favorites Help for great ideas on using TF Favorites as a teaching tool.

Why are you making me “join” to mark Favorites?

The only way for us to know who you are is to give you a unique log-in so you can customize TeachersFirst . This will save you time and make TeachersFirst work for you. See Why Join to find out more benefits of your free membership.

Can I make copies of things I find on TF?
